This week in John 8:39-47, Jesus does something that had to be shocking to hear. He looks the most respected, most religious men in Jerusalem in the eye and tells them, calmly and directly, that their father is the devil. Think about the last time someone who loved you told you something you didn’t want to hear. A parent’s “no” that stung in the moment but kept you from something worse. That’s what’s happening here. Jesus isn’t losing patience with these men, He’s telling them the truth because their eternal destiny depends on it. Watch or listen to this sermon now.
